I moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1996, after living in Minnesota, the UK and Greece. Two children in Arlington Public Schools. BA and Diploma (Architecture). Practiced architecture for ten years in the UK, designing and managing multi-million pound projects to include public works and private residences.
PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (1995). Research focus on relationships between a community, its values and the environment.
Trained as Tree Steward (2004), Master Gardener (2009) and Master Naturalist (2010). Volunteer with Virginia Cooperative Extension. Facilitates outdoor learning, 4-H groups and schoolyard maintenance at Arlington Traditional School. Chair of Arlington Extension Leadership Council (since 2009). On APS Science Advisory Committee and the Arlington Committee of 100, and the Boards of the Arlington Outdoor Education Association and Audubon Society of North Virginia. Enjoys multi-cultural links. Interests in environmental policy, good food, art and science education.
