Summer Internship Program: Virginia Tech DECA State Office

Primary Program Area Focus: DECA

1. Describe your plans for this internship.  (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)

    ● The DECA intern will support the planning, coordination, and execution of Virginia DECA programs and events, with a primary focus on student leadership development and conference operations.
    ● Responsibilities will include assisting with event logistics for conferences such as the State Leadership Conference, supporting officer teams and advisors, helping manage communications and outreach, and contributing to marketing and social media  efforts.
    ● Will also assist with administrative tasks, data tracking, and special projects related to member engagement, scholarships, and partnerships, allowing them to gain hands - on experience in nonprofit and education-based program management.

2.  Describe the knowledge / skills you expect the intern to gain from this experience.

    ●    Through this internship, the DECA intern will develop professional skills in project management, event planning, communication, and teamwork within a fast-paced, mission-driven organization.
    ●    The intern will gain experience working with diverse stakeholders including students, educators, volunteers, and business partners. 
    ●    They will strengthen skills in leadership development, problem-solving, organization, and professinal etiquette, while also gaining exposure to non-profit operations, program evaluation, and educational program delivery aligned with career and technical education.

3. How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?

●    The intern will be intentionally exposed to multiple areas of Virginia Cooperative  Extension through structured collaboration, meetings, and project involvement. 
●    By working closely with DECA staff and participating in planning discussions, trainings, and statewide initiatives, the  intern will gain insight into how VCE supports career readiness, youth leadership, and education across the Commonwealth. 
●    Opportunities to observe cross-program collaboration, attend relevant meetings or events, and engage in reflection will help the intern understand how DECA within the broader ission and impact of VCE's diverese program areas.
