Summer Internship Program: Virginia Extension Master Gardener

Primary Program Area Focus: ANR, Extension Master Gardener Program

1. Describe your plans for this internship.  (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)

The intern will support statewide program delivery by assisting with multi-day conference planning, event logistics, and day-to-day administration within the State EMG Office.  Additionally, they will help advertise and coordinate a one-day statewide volunteer event and contribute to strengthening learning resources available for EMG volunteers.  This role offers hands-on experience in managing Extension programming frombehind the scenes.

2.  Describe the knowledge / skills you expect the intern to gain from this experience.  

Throughout the internship the student will build practical skills in professional communication and office and computer workflows.  They will gain experience collaborating with volunteer teams and learn how statewide Extension programs are organized and supported.  By the end of the internship the student will have a deeper understanding of VCE programming and best practices for volunteer engagement.

3.  How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?

The intern will be introduced to VCE's statewide structure through exposure to multiple program areas connected to the Extenson Master Gardener network.  They will shadow the State EMG Coordinator through a full program plannng and administration cyle to gain understanding of how Extension programming functions at local and state levels.  Participating in planning meetings and statewide events will further highlight the diversity and impact of VCE initiatives.
