Summer Internship Program: Virginia State University-Communications and Marketing

Primary Program Area Focus: Communications and Marketing - 4-H, ANR, and FCS
1. Describe your plans for this internship. (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)
The College of Agriculture Marketing & Communications Department is responsible for the internal and external marketing and communication functions of the college’s Extension and research departments and provides marketing and communications support to the college’s academic departments. We work in a very creative, driven, and collaborative environment and ensure that our marketing and communication practices, tools, and techniques are current and competitive.
We are currently seeking a creative, savvy, and self-starting intern who is passionate about digital media and marketing and is prepared to apply classroom knowledge to real day-to-day work.

The selected intern will gain valuable experience working on a thriving support team for Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), and will have the opportunity to learn about the various program areas VCE offers while marketing the organization.
2. Describe the knowledge / skills you expect the intern to gain from this experience.
Curate digital content for social media and web pages; including graphics, copy, photos, and video
Assist the department with online audience engagement and campaigns
Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules using Hootsuite and/or Buffer
Collaborate with the MarComm creative team on projects and event marketing
Research SEO/SEM keywords for web pages and social media
Update internal databases
Develop weekly analytics reporting for all online platforms
Assist with email and event campaigns
Create compelling visuals and/or copy (using the brand guide) for web and social media
3. How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?
This intern will work with all program areas as well as Unit Coordinators across multiple localities. Therefore, they will learn about the breadth of Extension as well as the value of our partnerships.

Time commitment: Part time - Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week until internship hours are satisfied
