Summer Internship Program: Giles County
Primary Program Area Focus: ANR
1. Describe your plans for this internship. (i.e. What specifically will the intern be doing?)
We want our intern to explore their interests in all Extension program areas and find what aspects they are most passionate about! The intern will be primarily ANR focused, assisting the ANR Agent in conductiong farm and garden site visits, and assisting with the Grow Giles organic gardening program. The intern will have the opportunity to explore the youth development (4-H) and Family & Consumer Sciences program areas and assist those agents as well. Specifically in the 4-H program, the intern will have the opportunity to attend and assist with Junior 4-H Camp. Specifically in the FCS program, the intern will have the opportunity to assist with the summer day camps and nutrition programming. Ideally the intern will take the lead on planning and implementing programs of their choosing in the area of Extension that they are most inspired by, with guidance from the agents. The intern will also have the opportunity to create educational YouTube videos, write blog posts for the Grow Giles program, and collaborate with the agents on the monthly newsletter.

3. How will the intern learn about the breadth of VCE and our various program areas?
The Giles County VCE office prides itself on collaboration. A large majority of our programs are a collaborative effort between the ANR, 4-H, and FCS Agents. We believe heavily in the power of working together and connecting our programs to all Extension program areas. The intern will have the opportunity to attend and assist with all programming areas through our collaborative efforts. Additionally, there will be instances where the intern will be able to program with agents in other counties. We value partnerships among our neighboring Extension offices and our community partners, so the intern will have the opportunity to see and work in collaboration in Extenson. Our ANR Agent started as an intern in the Wise County office, so she has specific experience to the internship and becomeing an agent to share with an itnern.
